Jones Continues to Make the Grade

The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) released the annual school report cards for 2018, and the results for Jones are outstanding. Jones received a rating of "Exemplary" from ISBE. Another piece of great news was that Jones once again was rated 1+ by the CPS School Quality Ratings (SQRP) which is the highest rating in the system. Fall Highlights

Each year, Jones College Prep hosts and open house in mid-October. The event is designed to welcome prospective students and their families to campus in hopes that they will discover what makes Jones such a special school. Guests enjoy a brief welcome presentation and then are encouraged to tour around the two buildings where they can talk with faculty, staff, students and parent volunteers. It is estimated that more than 5,000 guests attended the event this year.

Friends of Jones hosted its 4th Annual 5K Eagle Run and Walk. The event is open to students, faculty, staff, families and alumni. The goal of the run/walk is to enjoy a morning in Washington Park and raise funds to support student clubs and teams. This year, the event raised $11,000 and benefitted 49 organizations. Thanks to all the alumni who participated and joined the fun.

Congratulations to the JV volleyball team placing first in the City Championship following an undefeated season! The girls were crowned conference champions for a third straight year, made the city championship for a fourth straight year and won their third city title. The team is coached by Howard Hu, chemistry teacher at Jones.

Audiences filled the Robin Bennett Theatre earlier this fall for performances of Metamorphoses by Mary Zimmerman. The play, adapted from the classic Ovid poem, premiered at Northwestern University in 1996. Director/theater teacher Brad Lyons, helped Jones thespians bring the story to life, complete with a pool built into the stage.

Brian Coleman, Jones school counselor and the counseling department chair was named the 2019 School Counselor of the Year by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA). Mr. Coleman attended Northwestern University for his undergraduate degree and he received his master’s in counseling from DePaul University’s School of Education. Mr. Coleman is pictured above with Dr. Janice Jackson, CEO of Chicago Public Schools and Jones College Prep Principal, Dr. Joe Powers.

Friends of Jones Annual Fund

As graduates and alumni parents of Jones, your are a vital part of the Friends of Jones community! Since 2009, Friends of Jones has raised more than $1.5 million to provide invaluable support to JCP's rigorous academic, enrichment and extra-curricular programs that would not be possible through funds allocated by CPS alone. These funds are critical in keeping JCP among the most successful high schools in the state and the nation, and we're grateful for the past generosity of our alumni and alumni families.

In addition to supporting our alumni efforts, funds raised by Friends of Jones have been used to purchase computers, software, laptops, athletic uniforms and travel, classroom technology and supplies, professional development, as well as underwrite Freshman Connection, field trips and countless other rewarding projects that benefit our entire student body.

Alumni and friends are invited to continue their support of Jones by making a contribution. Gifts of all sizes are welcome and appreciated. Donate now.
